Free Coin Sorting Printable

Free Coin Sorting Printable

When teaching money to your student, hands-on activities are a sure-fire activity! Most kids will choose to learn by doing rather than other learning methods. In this post, you will be encouraged to introduce coins through sorting activities. For years, my kids would create their own sorting sheet by creating a four square graphic organizer. It was simple and got the job done. As I had more kids, there was one in particular that needed more time learning the coins. This is when the FREE Coin Sorting Printable was created. It allowed my student to practice sorting with pictures. As my student became confident, we then moved to the homemade version. Read on to download your own copy of the FREE Coin Sorting sheet!

Introduce Money with Coins

Homemade Coin Sorting Activity

As most of you know, hands-on activities are effective at teaching new concepts. To introduce money to your student, you can easily fold a sheet of paper into 4-squares. In each square, write the name of a coin with it’s value. It can be fun to add a circle similar in size to the actual coin and color it brown for a penny and gray for the other coins. Now, ask your student to copy the words. Next is the fun part. Give your child a pile of coins and ask them to sort the coins on their coin sheet. This has proven to be the best way for mine to learn the names of the coins.

The Coin Sorting Printable is an easy introduction into coin sorting and one that I use now to introduce money. I like that this sorting sheet has front and back pictures to each coin. This is especially helpful when students are just learning how to identify each coin.
