This set of Word Family Matching Worksheets corresponds with our Short Vowel Word Family Worksheets and our Short Vowel Word Family Sentences. Together these three word family activities make a great addition to your early learners language arts curriculum. This specific set of word family worksheets allows the student to sound out a picture word and match it to the correct ending sound. It is helpful for the students to have worked with the ending sounds before so that this set of printables serve as a mastery activity.

Personally, I would use these activity sheets in unison with our other sets of word family worksheets. Start by focusing on one short vowel at a time. Use the basic short vowel word family worksheets first. These allow your student to create new words while using the same ending sound. You may want to incorporate word slides or the popular paint chip activity to help students make new words. For example, your student could use the beginning sound c to add to the ending sound of at to create the word, cat. Once your student has created new words, I suggest moving onto the corresponding word family sentence worksheet. Lastly, finish with these Word Family Ending Worksheets.
