The Space Race Unit: Updated

The Space Race was an exciting time when the United States and the Soviet Union competed to explore space and achieve amazing firsts. It has always been a fascinating topic to me because it is one of the few subjects where science and history truly come together. The Space Race Unit allows students to learn about that time through reading, watching, building, and creating. From launching rockets to designing space patches, students explore how science, teamwork, and determination have helped humans reach beyond Earth.

Planet Research Project

Projects are an important part of any strong solar system unit study. While worksheets, notes, and videos all have their place, students need opportunities to show what they know in a more meaningful way. This Planet Research Worksheet Pack helps guide that process by giving students a clear structure for gathering and organizing information about a planet. This Planet Research Worksheet Pack is great for families and co-ops, as it allows parents and teachers to modify expectations based on students’ abilities. You may also like to check out our Earth vs. Planet Project too!

Multi-Stage Rocket Lab: Film Canister Lab

Have you ever wondered how rockets travel all the way into space? In this lab, you will explore the science behind multi-stage rockets by building your very own film canister rocket! Multi-stage rockets, like the Saturn V and the Space Shuttle, use separate parts that drop off along the way to make the rocket lighter and help it travel farther. In this lab, you will experiment with the power of chemical reactions to launch a small rocket.  Extend the learning with an informational article about multi-stage rockets. Explore Multi-Stage Rockets, Saturn V, the Space Shuttle and more!

Solar and Lunar Eclipses Unit Study

Bring science to life with this Solar and Lunar Eclipses Unit Study! Enjoy this complete, hands-on lesson designed for older elementary students through middle school. Students will explore how the Earth, Moon, and Sun align to create solar and lunar eclipses through a myriad of printable learning tools. This engaging unit combines a printable model, cut-and-paste writing sheet, video suggestions, and a comprehensive article—making it easy for teachers and homeschool parents to teach one of astronomy’s most fascinating topics.

Starburst Rock Cycle Lab Sheets

Our Starburst Rock Cycle Lab Sheets are ideal for teachers of large classrooms and for the homeschool mom who is teaching their own. It wasn’t until several years ago did I even try the Starburst Rock Cycle lab, but at that time I wasn’t needing lab sheets. Fast forward some years and I needed lab sheets to accompany this fun and sweet activity for a class. One thing I really enjoy about teaching a class (big or small) is that I get to see firsthand how the worksheet or activity works and can then make adjustments if necessary. It’s like a recipe, you try it and then make tweaks to perfect it. That is what I did with these lab sheets.

Letters and Sounds

Letters and sounds… simple, right? Well, for all of you parents out there who already feel overwhelmed with everything preschool, just remember, keep it simple. Have a goal in your mind for what you want your child to learn by the end of the year (or even the end of the month!) and then start taking steps to accomplish it. You do not need to do every alphabet activity, just pick a few and stick with them. There are plenty of Letters and Sounds Printables & Activities right here to get you started!

Types of Landforms Mini Project

Sometime in elementary school, students learn the different types of landforms and then again during their middle school years. I am starting to teach a 6th grade Earth Science course this year using the Apologia Earth Science textbook. There is a section outlining landforms. This is the text that we used for this activity book. However, there are several free resources that you can use to gather information for your Types of Landforms Project.

Hi! My name is Marie. I am a Christian wife and mother to six children.  I used to work in the public school system as a middle school science teacher. Honestly, I never thought that I would homeschool my children. Little did I know what God had planned! The Homeschool Daily is where I post slideshows, activities, tips, and ideas! I hope you find encouragement and teaching resources while you are here! Look around and stay awhile!
