Young Earth for Kids

Young Earth for Kids

I didn’t grow up learning the difference between an old Earth and young Earth. It wasn’t even a consideration. Most kids will only be taught the theory of an old Earth since about 90% of all American children attend public schools where they are taught that the Earth is about 4.5 billion years old. This theory is the basis for other theories that undermine God’s teaching from the Bible. In this post, Young Earth for Kids, you will find activities to help you teach your student that Earth is thousands of years old rather than billions. What will we use to calculate Earth’s age? The Bible.

Old Earth or Young Earth?

Many, many years ago I taught Earth Science to 8th graders. This was before they switched Earth Science to 6th grade. If you know what the public school teaches in the subject of Earth Science, then you will understand why this student confronted me one day.  After class, one of my students, a 13 year old Christian boy, said to me in a tone of inquiry, “Ms. Nimmons, I thought you were a Christian?” I was somewhat stunned. In that moment, I told him, “Yes.” But I also knew why he asked. We were about to venture into our next chapter which focused on the Big Bang Theory. It is one of the theories taught in public school that contradicts God’s word.

Why Young Earth for Kids

The Lord had already begun to do a work in me in regards to this subject. And even though I had been a Christian for over a decade, it had never been something I had ever considered or questioned until the previous year when I started to read, ” The Lie, Evolution,” by Ken Ham. It was then that I started to teach differently. I presented what I was supposed to, but I also gave reference to another belief, one that is based in Christianity. This is the belief that God created the heavens and the Earth and everything else in 6 days. The belief that dinosaurs roamed the Earth when humans were around. A belief that puts the Earth at thousands of years old rather than billions. I am ashamed to say that I was not as forthcoming with my students as I am here.

How Old is the Earth? Article & Questions

Young Earth for Kids

When I set out to find resources to help me teach a young Earth for kids, I first went to Answers in Genesis. Their website has a wealth of information. Immediately, I found several articles to help teach a young Earth.

How Old is the Earth? was the first article I assigned my students. I did not write any of the article. All credit is given to Answers in Genesis. You can find the article online here. I created a print friendly PDF so I could hand it out to my students. This is the first of three articles I used. The order of the articles was purposeful.

It All Adds Up Article & Questions

The article, It All Adds Up, is in my opinion the glue that ties all the articles together. This is the one that requires your student to use their Bible to configure some numbers using genealogy records. It is pretty cool.

All credit is given to Answers in Genesis and the author Roger Patterson. You can find the article online here. I created a print friendly PDF so I could hand it out to my students. This is the second of three articles I used. The order of the articles was purposeful.

Lesson 15: How Old is the Earth Article & Questions

The article, Lesson 15: How Old is the Earth, is the final article of the three. It helps students to use the brain gave them to decipher what the truth is.
