Physical Properties of Matter Slideshow

Our Physical Properties of Matter slideshow is 24 slides long and coincides perfectly with the FREE printable table which can be found below. *To download the PowerPoint version of this slideshow, visit our shop. The slideshow maps out all of the main physical properties, defines them, and gives examples for each. There are several easy lab investigations that can be used to help students understand that physical properties are ones that can seen and measured without changing the matter to something else. In the past, I have given students popcorn so that they can eat it, touch it, smell it, and hear it as it pops. It is easy to add a density lab to this unit. Our Floating Egg Lab or Salt Water Lab would work perfectly here.

Physical Properties of Matter Table

Physical Properties of Matter Activities

The FREE Physical Properties of Matter Table corresponds with the information in the slideshow above. A slideshow and note-taking graphic organizer is a great way to introduce new material to your students. Students will use this table to organize the physical properties of matter including defining and giving examples of each.

Chemical Properties of Matter Slideshow

This 39 slide presentation focuses on 7 chemical properties of matter. The slideshow would be perfect for middle school aged students. This slideshow walks your students through the Chemical Properties table allowing your students to identify, define, and illustrate each chemical property. At the end of the slideshow, the teacher can review with a quick 11 question pop quiz. Students are asked to identify between physical or chemical property examples. This slideshow can easily be paired with one or more teacher demonstrations to really bring the class to life! Try burning paper in a closed jar or showing oxidation with cut up apple. There are several easy demos to try.

Chemical Properties of Matter Graphic Organizer

Properties of matter Activities

The Chemical Properties of Matter Graphic Organizer was created to pair seamlessly with the above slideshow presentation. Walk your class through seven chemical properties of matter including flammability and toxicity. Students will identify, define, and illustrate each of the chemical properties. This table is an effective way to collect information for a science notebook.

Add in Teacher Demos and Video Clips

To create a layered lesson of learning that appeals to the broadest amount of students, teachers need to add a variety of activities to their lessons. In this setting, students will be engaged and find their class time interesting and challenging rather than boring. I advise adding in multiple short teacher demos such as the ones listed below. The Properties of Matter Activities come to life with the addition of the following labs, demos, and videos.
