Letter Matching Printables & Activities

Letter Matching Printables & Activities

One of the earliest concepts students learn is to know the difference between capital and lowercase letters. The Letter Matching Printables & Activities below will help your student learn the difference between capital and lowercase letters as well as be able to match like letters. It is beneficial to use multiple activities to teach one topic since students this age lose their attention so quickly. Take a look at our FREE Letter Matching Printables & Activities to see what will work for you and yours!

Letter Matching Activities

Introduction to Capital and Lowercase letters

Personally, I like to introduce the concept of capital vs. lowercase letters with this homemade activity. Give your printer a break and try this easy, yet effective, letter activity with your preschooler. In the center of the paper, write the capital and lowercase letter in marker. As you can tell from the picture, write this fairly large.

You may want to add dots on the letters to represent where your child should start to trace with their pencil. In this activity, review the letter name and sound, introduce how to write the letter, and compare the uppercase and lowercase version of the letter. Next, give your student a set of stickers to adhere to the paper. To increase the difficulty of this activity, write the capital and lowercase letters randomly on the stickers and then ask your student to sort them on the paper.

Learn Letters and Alphabet with LEGOS

Letter Matching Printables & Activities

Most kids love playing with LEGOS. So, what about learning with LEGOS? It isn’t a new concept and I am not the first mom to introduce the idea. Learning with LEGOS is refreshing and fun. When traditional methods of learning are not working for a child, try a new approach. Learning with LEGOS is a hands-on way to teach everything from letters, numbers, and even word building. Letter Matching Eggs

The Homeschool Daily

I’m sure that many of you have seen this clever use of Easter Eggs. Using a permanent marker, write the capital letter on the top part of a plastic egg. Then, write the matching lowercase letter on the bottom. You can use these ABC eggs in various ways. Hide them around your house or outside and have your child review the letter sounds as they find the eggs. You can also just spread them out on a rug. Say a certain letter sound and encourage your child to find the letter that makes that sound. You can also separate the eggs and have your child match the letters together.

Letters and Sounds Spoons

Creating Letter and Sounds Spoons is another teaching tool that is inexpensive and fun for the kids. They love to have unusual items pulled out of the cabinet. Don’t you get tired of doing the same things all the time? Figure out ways to teach the same thing but ten different ways.

First, get 26 white plastic spoons. Write the Capital letters on the white spoons in permanent marker. Now, get 26 clear spoons to write the lowercase letters on. The first time you use these, your child will simply lay the lowercase letter on top of the capital letter. Since the top spoon is clear, you will easily be able to see the capital letter underneath the lowercase.

Afterwards, we glued ours together. Now, we just use them as a review game. To play as a game, spread the spoons out on the floor. Say the sound of a letter. Your child is to find the right spoon/sound and put it in the cup. When all the spoons are back in the cup, game over!

Homemade version of Letter Matching Worksheet

Letter Matching Printables & Activities

Isn’t it nice to be able to make a few worksheets on a fly without using your printer? It is for me! Out of convenience and the case for sanity, I try to have activities and school items ready for the younger kiddos ahead of time. So, in those chaotic moments, I can just grab a ready to go school item. It may be a worksheet, cut & paste activity, puzzle, or bagged craft.
