Days of Creation Journal

Days of Creation Journal

Your students will find it easy to recall what God created on each day of creation when they construct their Days of Creation Journal. The journal is a simple way to encourage your student to write and recollect what scripture says about God’s creation. I must admit that even though I have taught the days of creation several times, it wasn’t until I drew pictures depicting His creation and then wrote about each that I remembered it myself. The same will be true of your students. Once they draw and write about creation, they too will have a better chance at comprehending what God created and when.

Implement the Days of Creation Journal

Video and Scripture Reading

When learning about the days of creation, I like to show my kids the Beginner’s Bible YouTube video on God’s creation first. Just to clarify, this video does cover all of the days of creation and then some. So, feel free to view it in short clips. After viewing it, I read the creation scripture for the day we are focusing on out loud. We then discuss and reiterate exactly what God created on the particular day we are working on.

Draw a Picture Representing the Day

Now that the kids have a good understanding about what God created, I encourage them to draw a picture of God’s creation. They draw and color their illustration.

Write About their Picture

There are two levels of writing space offered for each day. One level is perfect for those students who will likely write one sentence about the day. Then there is a second option that offers more lines for writing. This level is for students writing more than one sentence.

Create a Days of Creation Journal

After a week of learning about the days of creation, your student will have the makings of a Days of Creation Journal. Staple all of the writing sheets together or put them in an inexpensive 3-prong folder. Be sure to download the cover sheet below to complete your booklet!

Additional Thoughts...

Sometimes a child is hesitant to write. I have found that most of the time when my student is apprehensive about a subject, he doesn’t feel confident in the task at hand. That may not always be true, but when it is, I find it important to make them feel at ease with loads of encouragement and examples. Encourage your new writer to try all different types of writing. One time I actually put a monster truck toy on the table and asked my son to write about it. What does it look like? What can it do? Who gave it to you?
