The Legend of the Candy Cane Read Aloud
Start with the reading of The Legend of the Candy Cane. What a beautiful story to read! It is by Lori Walburg. If you are unable to get your hands on a hard copy, there is a read aloud on YouTube. The story sets the stage for the rest of the activities. Purchase your own copy here.
Legend of the Candy Cane Cards-Tags-Bookmarks
FREE Legend of the Candy Cane CARDS-TAGS-BOOKMARKS! This set of cards, tags, and bookmarks make beautiful Christian witnessing tools. There are multiple sizes to choose from. You can use them as tags for gift bags or on baskets. You could even pass them out as is. For the smaller cards, you may want to use smaller candy canes and pass them out to a Sunday school class. We choose to attach candy canes to ours and then pass out to friends, family, and people we don’t know. It doesn’t take long to make a bag full of them. Take the bag with you while you shop. As you check out, hand one to the cashier and wish them a Merry Christmas. Encourage your children to put them in neighbor’s mailboxes. Spread a little Jesus this Christmas!
Candy Cane coloring and activity sheets are just the thing for the younger kids in your family. They are ideal for a Sunday school class full of early learners! Pair the reading of the Legend of the Candy Cane, “J is for Jesus” activity sheet, and candy cane ornament for a fun-filled Sunday school class!
For those kids who dislike writing, try this Draw & Write activity sheet. There are five different levels to choose from. The writing prompt is one that requires your writer to put in their own words how a candy cane can remind them of Jesus. Encourage your student to draw a picture that supports their writing or vice versa. Have fun with it! This is a great way to practice basic writing skills or more thorough writing with detailed sentences. Check out our other Draw & Write sheets here.
Isn’t it nice when you and your kids can perform a science experiment without a hitch? It’s GREAT! Over the years, I have found my go-to labs. These are labs that are easy to assemble and work every time. This Candy Cane lab is one such lab. There are different versions of this lab. Check out the Dissolving Candy Cane Lab with Lab Sheets here.
Easy Candy Cane Ornament
What an inexpensive and easy ornament to make! It coincides with the Legend of the Candy Cane perfectly. All that is needed is one red and one white pipe cleaner. First, cut their lengths in half. Then, twist the pipe cleaners together bending the top slightly to represent a shepherd’s staff.
