My first three children were boys and only one of them cared much for coloring. Then came along two little girls who changed everything. They love to color and think hearts… well, hung the moon! So, to kick off Valentine’s week, the girls and I are reading and coloring this FREE Hearts Emergent Reader. It features a repetitive sentence structure that focuses on the words, I, love, hearts, and color words. Be sure to download more of our free emergent readers here. How to Print the FREE Heart Emergent Reader
My favorite emergent readers are the ones that ask my student to do something. That something could be coloring or finding an object in a picture. Whatever it is, my student’s active participation helps to keep them engaged. The Heart Emergent Reader encourages your child to color the hearts based on what the book says the color of the hearts is. Super cute!
This emergent reader also features the number words up to seven. When reading this book to your kids, be sure to point to the hearts as you count them. Also, use your pointer finger to follow the words as you read the book out loud. This repetition will help your students identify number and color words quicker than if you did not.
To print a handheld copy of the FREE Hearts Emergent Reader, print 2 pages per sheet. Once printed, cut the sheets in half, sort, and then staple into a book. Easy peasy!
I am all about simplicity these days. This simple Valentine’s Coloring Sheet was created for my little girls who wanted to color something for some moms they know. Download now!
