ALL ABOUT ME BOOK SLIDESHOW

It is a valuable resource to use as you create the All About Me Book. Furthermore, the slideshow explains the science aspects of the book more thoroughly.

ALL ABOUT ME BOOK LAYOUT

Cover Page

All About Me Book

The front cover of the All About Me Book leaves room for students to illustrate themselves artistically. Encourage them to draw things that represent their likes and hobbies. Ask them questions to stoke the imagination. What do they enjoy doing in their free time? Do they have a nickname?

Second Page

All About Me Book- Page 2

For the second page, students will need a thermometer for taking their temperature and an ink pad for their fingerprints. There is a FREE printable below depicting the 3 Main Types of Fingerprints. It may come in handy if working with an older group of students. To address one of the other questions posed to students, you can download a set of 3 posters depicting characteristics of an omnivore, herbivore, and carnivore.

Third Page

All About Me Book- Page 3

For the third page, students will use a ruler to measure the length of their feet. Besides drawing their family and choosing their favorite color, students will identify their favorite way to use electricity. Thus, discuss how they use electricity: warm showers, hot food, television, lights, etc.

Fourth Page

All About Me Book- Page 4

On the fourth sheet, your student will trace and measure the length of their hand. For older students, encourage them to only trace their writing hand.

Fifth Page

For the fifth page, consider printing out the Seasons poster below. It identifies months based on seasons, which can be helpful for students when determining what season they were born in. There is also an interactive website listed below that provides you and your students with a moon calculator. It will configure your weight on the moon’s surface. If you would rather, print the moon weight conversion poster below for easy access.

Final Page

All About Me Book - Page 6

The final page will only require a tape measure to calculate the student’s height. Students will also benefit from a lesson on how long it takes for the Earth to make one revolution around the Sun. To guide you, your student, or a class, consider using the All About Me Slideshow to accompany the printable book.

All About Me Book Teaching Resources

These are Helpful To Use With The All About Me Book

When I worked in the classroom full-time, I often set up science stations that enabled students to move freely around the room to complete a science packet. This booklet was no different for our homeschool co-op group. Parents were divided and spread out over a handful of stations. One parent was in charge of the scan thermometer, one headed up the fingerprint station, another was in charge of helping students measure their feet! I volunteered one of our older students to be in charge of measuring the height of each student. It worked and the kids had fun!

When using the All About Me Book with our co-op class, I found certain tools necessary and others helpful. You will need a scale, thermometer, and measuring tape. Even though I walked the class through the booklet using the slideshow before working on it independently, our class had many younger students who benefited from the educational posters and resources below.

3 Main Types of Fingerprints Information Sheet

All about me book

This 3 Main Types of Fingerprints information sheet was created to be used alongside the All About Me Book. It allows students to get a closer look at the 3 main types of fingerprints in a hope that they can decipher what type of fingerprint they have. Interesting topic. The information on this educational sheet is meant to be used at a station or for a parent/child scenario. Happy learning!

Herbivore - Omnivore - Carnivore Posters

All about me book

On the first page of the All About Me book, students are asked to mark if they are herbivores, omnivores, or carnivores. These posters help kids to understand what each term means.

Seasons Poster

There are many seasons posters out there, but I finally made my own to make sure that the months for each season were posted. While completing the booklet, students are asked what season does their birthday fall in. Many students are not sure of this. The seasons poster helps parents guide them to the correct answer.

Moon Weight Calculator Sheet

all about me book

My students always loved to learn how much they would weigh if they were on the moon. For kids, there is a mystery to the moon. I found the document labeled, “Your Weight in Outer Space,” and the simpler one I created to accommodate my younger and lighter students. If you are unable to use the online Moon Weight Calculator, you can print these out and use them at a station for students to figure out their weight on the moon.

Food for thought...

Looking for a more permanent science curriculum? Even though we pursue various science units that encompass labs and such, we also use a science textbook each year. Some might say that our science units supplement our textbook, while others would say the opposite to be true. The labs, experiments, graphic organizers, videos, and other activities bring the textbook information to life.

What causes an ice boat to float

We use Abeka Science textbooks. I love that they incorporate God and His sovereignty into their curriculum. When I taught in the public school system, I noticed that many of my students lacked vocabulary. Thus, it was difficult for them to understand the why behind many of our investigations. Unfortunately, they were deficient in their background knowledge. Our science time would be lacking too: if it weren’t for the rich vocabulary and science language that we find in our science textbooks and readers.
