How to Create a Complete lesson
Our Famous Scientists and Inventors Draw & Write Sheets are ideal for elementary students. When combined with other resources, these writing sheets make a layered lesson of learning. Before tackling the Draw & Write activity sheet, read a science reader or view an educational video about the scientist or inventor. Some of the scientists and inventors featured allow for a craft or lab to be added. For example, you could make peanut butter when studying George Washington Carver or make paper airplanes when studying the Wright Brothers.
How to Use these Draw & Write Sheets
Our Famous Scientists and Inventors Draw & Write Sheets offer students space to draw images along with room for them to practice writing about what they learned.
In the draw section, encourage your student to draw something that represents what the scientist discovered or studied. For the inventors, draw something that represents what they invented or how it affected the world.
In the writing section, ask your student to write about their picture explaining what it is the scientist or inventor did. This is a great time to reiterate what the famous figure did, studied, discovered, or invented.
Remind your students to use capital letters and punctuation. The premise of the Draw & Write sheets is for students to recall learned information so they can then write about it. This encourages comprehension and retention.
One year, we used a variety of these sheets along with our Science Draw & Write sheets to create a science journal. It was a successful way to teach science and writing at the same time. I only wish I had a picture to show you!

Additional Thoughts...
Sometimes a child is hesitant to write. I have found that most of the time when my student is apprehensive about a subject, he doesn’t feel confident in the task at hand. That may not always be true, but when it is, I find it important to make them feel at ease with loads of encouragement and examples. Encourage your new writer to try all different types of writing. One time I actually put a monster truck toy on the table and asked my son to write about it. What does it look like? What can it do? Who gave it to you?
Wishing you the best… Marie
