FREE Fingerprint Investigation Printables
This Free Fingerprint Investigation Printable was created to coincide with our Community Helper Unit. It is the perfect teaching tool to use when learning about how police officers obtain fingerprints at a crime scene to apprehend criminals. We also talk about how fingerprints identify people, whether it be a criminal or a missing child. It is also great for police themed birthday parties!
The 3 Main Types of Fingerprints Poster is a great reference sheet. It is just the thing you want when investigating fingerprints. Use it to help you identify what type of fingerprint you have too. Even though no two people have the same exact fingerprint, we all have certain patterns within our fingerprints that could be similar. When studying fingerprints, you are likely to hear about loops, arches, and whorls. Read more about each of these types of fingerprints in this PDF download. We used this reference sheet also when we worked with our All About Me Book.
Fingerprint Investigation Videos
For younger kids, you may appreciate the first video presented by SciShow for Kids. It is just one more layer of learning to add to your mini-study on fingerprints. The basics of fingerprints are presented in this video along with another lab idea to try. For those students wanting to learn more about fingerprints, try the second video that explains how are fingerprints are made in the womb. Interesting, but not necessarily a video younger kids would be appreciate.
