Our Mean Median Mode and Range learning resources are ideal for middle school classes, but can be just as effective with 5th graders up to high school age. In this post, you will find several different tools to use to teach these concepts including a slideshow that you can download as a PDF, guided notes, activity sheets, videos, and more!

This slideshow was meant to be used with middle school students, but has been effective for multiple ages including high school. Truth is, I believe that most 5th graders could handle this just fine. The slideshow can be used in a classroom setting or as an individual learning tool. Each of the four data analysis methods are defined. The slideshow provides the audience with an understanding of how to find median, mean, range, and mode within any given set of numbers to help access and analysis data.
Any time I teach a science course, I help my students create a science notebook that they can refer back to throughout the year. Guided notes were always a key component for study guides and general organizing of information learned. Teachers often appreciate guided notes too since they are effective at keeping students’ attention during periods of lecture.
This lab sheet would be a functional and effective tool to use after viewing the slideshow. Use a set of dice in this activity to collect data. The student will simply roll the dice and add up the sum of the two die. Use the data collected to practice your science skills finding mean, median, mode, and range.
This practice worksheet is perfect to give as a homework sheet or class activity after instruction. The amount of problems is just right. The student is asked to find the mean, median, mode, and range for 6 set of numbers. You may want to walk through the steps with your student practicing with them.
This YouTube video is by Math Antics. It is an 11 minute lesson on how to find mean, median, and mode. He does an excellent job at explaining how to find each within a data set. Very informative.
