Sometimes the best tool to teach your child a new skill is right in front of you. In this case, its count the piggy bank. My child starts off with the bills first sorting them into piles, 20’s, 10’s, 5’s, and 1’s. We count how many of each and then move onto coins. Again, my child sorts putting the quarters, dimes, nickels, and pennies into separate piles. This is perfect practice. After sorting them, my child puts the quarters into piles of 4, the dimes into stacks of 10, the nickels into groups of 20, and the pennies 100 in a pile. My student then counts it all up! Great way to learn counting money… real world practice!
