Candy Heart Graphing Lab
In the Candy Heart Graphing Lab, you will receive a PDF file with 4 lab sheets. For this lab, you will need an individual box of conversation hearts per student or per group. Other than candy hearts, your students will need the lab sheets and crayons or colored pencils. That’s it! Let’s look at what is included:
Sorting Sheet
The Sorting Lab Sheet keeps your student organized. It is a graphic organizer for your sorting and counting of candy hearts. Students will sort their candies based on colors and then count them and record their data. At the bottom of the sorting sheet, there is a place for students to record their total number of candies. They will use the data recorded on this sheet to create their bar graphs.
Candy Heart Graphing Lab Sheet – Option 1
The first Graphing Lab Sheet is more basic than the second. Students will still fill in their bar graphs, but the comprehension questions are limited to two. This graphing lab sheet is ideal for younger students with minimal writing capacity.
Candy Heart Graphing Lab Sheet – Option 2
The second Graphing Lab Sheet allows students to create a bar graph and then answer 8 comprehension questions. These questions force students to analyze their data. I suggest using this sheet with older elementary students.
Lab Sheet 3 as Extension to Lab Sheet 2
The last lab sheet is an excellent extender for those students who are a bit older. I use this with students who are older elementary to middle school. It reviews fractions and finding an average.
