Ray's Math Primer Printables
Years ago when I first started homeschooling my oldest, I was on the search for free homeschool curriculum. At the time, I came across the new Ron Paul’s Homeschool Curriculum. Ron Paul had run for President in 2012 and it wasn’t long after that he introduced a free homeschool curriculum with videos and a free download to Ray’s Math Primer. Yes, I am admitting that I have had the below PDF’s for over a decade. My then preschooler is now about to enter high school! I did not use the Ray’s Math Primer in its entirety. However, it did inspire some math cards that you will find amongst the Ray’s Math Primer Printables below. This post is just one of ours devoted to elementary math.

Ray's Math Primer Inspired Cards
After reviewing Ray’s Math Primer, I was inspired to create a set of math cards that covered similar material that the classic book recommended. These Math Cards encourage the use of math language and skills thought to be beyond just math itself. There are 2 sets of Math Cards in this set. Each set has 70 questions. These cards were easy to use with my elementary student. Not only were we able to review math concepts, but we also practiced reading the cards. I also loved that I was able to reuse them with all of my children.
How to Make Your Cards
First, print your cards and laminate them. Next, you will cut the cards. I love using a paper cutter. It just makes life easier. After cutting, you will want to hole punch the top left-hand corner. For the sake of easy assembly, use a metal ring to connect each set of cards. You can also print these out as worksheets if you want your child to write the answers. Depending on how you use these, the Math Cards can be hands-on and verbal.
Ray's Arithmetic Series
Ray’s Arithmetic Series was a set of math books similar to the infamous McDuffey Readers. These were published starting in 1834 and into the 1900’s. These books were a staple in schools for years and continue to be used by private schools and homeschoolers. The Ray’s Math Primer focuses on addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division. It is over 90 pages long and does not require a workbook as the book itself provides your student with math questions to solve. If you are looking to use the Ray’s Math Primer as your math curriculum, be sure to download below or you can purchase a hard copy by clicking on the image. The Ray’s New Primary Arithmetic is aligned for 1st to 2nd grade. However, a third grader is usually still working on some of the concepts presented in this book.
We did not use the Ray’s Arithmetic Series past the first book, but that doesn’t mean that some of you won’t find the downloads below helpful. As you can see below, the Ray’s Arithmetic Series goes beyond 2nd grade into much higher levels of math. Any of you wanting to check it out, go for it! Download away!
