Ocean Floor Features Slideshow
The “What are the Ocean Features? slideshow is 16 slides long and covered the basic ocean floor features including continental shelf, continental slope, abyssal plain, trench, mid-ocean ridge, seamount, and volcanic island. This slideshow is the meat to our Ocean Floor Resources. The slideshow hits on what an oceanographer is and how they use technology such as SONAR to map the ocean floor. This slideshow is an effective tool to use when introducing an ocean unit. It is easy to move from the ocean features to the ocean zones, ocean life, and topics like tides and currents.
Ocean Floor Features Science Reader

This science reader is ideal for those who want the flexibility to send the PDF to their student via email. My older kids have used the PDFs rather than the slideshows since they claim it makes it easier to find the information they are looking for. Some teachers have also claimed that it is helpful when working with students online.
Ocean Floor Worksheets

These two Ocean Floor Worksheets coincide with our Ocean Floor Features slideshow. Students can use the science reader to answer the questions as they read and then complete the ocean floor features table. Pairing the slideshow and these ocean floor worksheets that are similar to guided notes are ideal for teaching this new information.

Ocean Floor Labeling Worksheet

Depending on your lesson or the skill level of your student, sometimes you need a worksheet that is easier than others. Our Ocean Floor Labeling Worksheet requires students to label the parts of the ocean without explaining them. This may be the one that works for you.

Ocean Floor Labeling Worksheet

With all our resources, we like to offer various levels of skill to our readers. This Ocean Floor Worksheet requires a student to draw a picture and describe each oceanic feature. It isn’t necessary for your student to complete all of the ocean floor resources offered on in this post. I encourage you to pick the ones that work well for your student. If you are teaching more than one child and their skill levels are different, than use different activity sheets for each. Make it work for you.

Add an Educational Video
I am all about layering a lesson with multiple modes of learning styles packed in. Since I am a visual learner, adding video to our Ocean Floor Resources was important. Some students will resonate with a video more than just reading about a subject.
