American Holidays Draw & Write Sheets

Teaching American Holidays to elementary students is made easy with this set of American Holiday Draw & Write Sheets. There are 23 in all! Each draw & write sheet has a space for students to draw something that represents the featured holiday. Then there are 5 lines for them to write a brief explanation about the holiday or their picture. These tend to be just enough space for both. For hesitant writers, they are not as intimidating as a blank sheet of paper and they offer students room to show their creative side too. Read on to find out how you can use these to create a lesson of layered learning!

*We do offer a more in-depth American Holidays Journal paired with a journal featuring Historical Figures that can be found here. You can take a look at our other Draw & Write sheets here!

Why American Holidays Draw & Write Sheets...

Our American Holidays Draw & Write sheets have the same benefits as our other writing sheet sets. They are convenient, simple, and yet practical and effective. When paired with a reading book, craft,  and or educational video, these writing sheets create a layered lesson of learning. For elementary students, these sheets provide just the right amount of writing room adjoining a creative drawing space. Asking your students to write about what they learned and to put a holiday into their own words promotes comprehension and retention. Let’s not forget that you can also knock out writing and social studies in one lesson!

American Holidays

As you can see, the Draw & Write sheets are ideal for elementary students.  It also allows the student and teacher to talk about the holiday. I have found that it is usually during this time that my student conveys their understanding or confusion on a topic. Don’t always assume they understand a topic. There have been many occasions when I thought my kid understood something, only to find out they didn’t!
