Hygiene Printables & Activities

hygiene printables & activities

Our Keep Clean Hygiene unit has lots of FREE Hygiene Printables & Activities! It provides an opportunity to teach vocabulary as much as practical hygiene. Some of the activities in this unit are for early preschoolers and toddlers. Talking about how to care for our teeth and wash our bodies and hands were tackled first. Books about dentists and doctors were checked out from the library. We read about teeth and cavities also. Not to mention, what kinds of food are good for teeth. Practicing how to properly wash our hands to kill germs was essential to cover in the Keep Clean Hygiene unit too. We even discussed why we shouldn’t pick our nose… whatever fits your unique child’s needs. Happy learning!

How to use the Hygiene Printables & Activities

Before starting your unit, scroll through and look at the selection of hygiene printables & activities. Decide which ones you think will resonate the most with your student’s demeanor and age. If your student is older, consider looking at our “How to battle bad germs?” post. It shares a slideshow and a lab that would work seamlessly with the hygiene printables & activities. Consider pairing educational videos, reading books, crafts, and or a lab to accompany the free printables below. This will create a dynamic lesson that you and your students will enjoy.

Start your unit with some hygiene books...

Unit studies will quickly come together if you weave in great literature about your topic. Use lots of interesting and informative books. The stories guide you and yours into meaningful discussions about the topic at hand. In this case, the hygiene printables & activities become complete when books are integrated throughout. Take a look at some of the books we found helpful. This is a great time to put a hold on at your local library. 🙂

HAPPY VS. SAD TEETH CUT & PASTE

The Happy vs. Sad Teeth cut & paste sheet an effective way to teach your child some of the downfalls of eating foods high in sugar and low in minerals and vitamins. After your child cuts the food & drink pictures out, they will paste the foods under either the happy tooth or the sad tooth. The happy tooth eats foods that are full of vitamins and minerals. Whereas, the sad tooth eats unhealthy food.

COUNTING TEETH CUT & PASTE

This is an activity that my children and I did when they were preschoolers. While working through our Keep Clean Hygiene unit, we always talk about keeping our teeth healthy. So, it only seemed appropriate to count teeth on a smile. Have your child cut the numbers out and glue them on the teeth. Encourage your child to glue them in order from left to right… 1, 2, 3, … In the end, have your child point to the numbers and count the teeth. Better yet, count them together! Happy learning!

BATH TIME CUT & PASTE ACTIVITY SHEET

The Bath Time Cut & Paste Activity Sheet is fun to create. Luckily, it promotes cleanliness too! I would encourage you to print off a picture of your child’s upper body to place in the bathtub using the bubbles to cover up any clothes in the picture. My kids loved making this bubble bath scene when they saw their own picture in the bathtub. It always gave us both a smile to see their picture placed in the bathtub.

First, cut out all the small pieces and sentence on the first page. Have your child glue them into place around the bathtub.  We used this time to talk about the importance of washing our bodies and I was able to work in how Jesus washes us of our sin… the dirt from our hearts. Download here or click on the image to your left. Wishing you happy learning!

BRUSH YOUR TEETH WORD BOOKLET

This booklet is perfect for a young preschooler. Besides promoting fine motor skills (cutting), the booklet encourages building of vocabulary. First, you will need to cut on the dotted lines. There will be 6 pages to your booklet. Next, put the book in order going from left to right, top to bottom. I staple the pages together with one single staple in the top left-hand corner. You or your child can cut out the words.

Now, you are ready to begin! Read the title out loud and then with each page ask the child, “What do you see in the picture?” Go over the word options with them verbally, “Water, toothbrush, toothpaste, or tooth?” Have the child match the word to the picture. Encourage the child to glue the word at the bottom of the picture. Reread the book to them when it is all done. Download here or click on the image. Happy learning!

WASH YOUR HANDS WORD BOOKLET

Preschoolers love this booklet. This is the day we also practice washing our hands properly. Your child will be so proud when their book is complete. Let’s begin!

After printing, cut along the dotted lines and then put the book in order going from left to right, top to bottom. I staple the pages together with one single staple in the top left-hand corner.

Sitting next to my child, I read the title to them and with each page I ask, “What do you see in the picture?” I then read the word options to them, “Water, liquid soap, bar soap, hands?” On each page, have the child glue the word at the bottom of the picture. Reread your book to them. Download here or click on the image to the left. Happy learning!

Why do we brush our teeth? by SciShow

Once again the SciShow does an excellent job explaining why it is important to brush our teeth. Some of the vocabulary introduced is bacteria and enamel. Kids will learn the science behind why it is important to brush their teeth. Enjoy!

Tooth Brushing Song by Blippi

For your musically inclined students, try the Tooth Brushing Song by Blippi. Some of your kids will like it and some won’t, but it’s worth a try! We made up our own song during brushing our teeth time. It went something like, “Ch, ch, ch, ch, brush your teeth. Brush your teeth. Ch, ch, ch, ch, brush your teeth. In the front. Ch, ch, ch, ch. In the back. Ch, ch, ch, ch.” It continued like this with more stanzas. Please don’t judge my song. I tried and at least my kids liked it. 🙂

Personal Hygiene for Kids

This video compilation is thorough in keeping healthy hygiene habits. It covers taking a shower, washing your hair, brushing your teeth… and the list goes on. It may be more appropriate for some than others. Worth trying!
